Sedona Vortex

If you are a spiritual person and are into the occult you may have heard of Sedona. Located in Northern Arizona, Sedona is about an hour drive south of Flagstaff. The town has become a bit of a mecca for new age spiritualism. Many people pilgrimage there for enlightenment. There is something very special about Sedona. Have you ever heard of vortexes? I hadn’t either, but a friend told me to check out a Sedona Vortex after he heard I was starting this blog.

To start, vortexes, or power spots, are a concentration of energy; they can be ascending or descending. The scientific community would attribute these phenomena to large deposits of certain minerals, mainly iron. Indigenous tribes never called them vortexes but saw the land as particularly spiritual. The whole area is seen as one big vortex, but there are concentrations within Sedona, each with its own name. There isn’t an agreed upon number of vortexes in Sedona, but all agree on the four main ones.

There Are Four Main Sedona Vortexes

Airport Mesa, Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, and Boynton Canyon are the big four vortexes in Sedona. The energy of a vortex can be masculine, feminine, or a mix. Airport Mesa is more masculine, Bell Rock masculine, Cathedral Rock feminine, and Boynton Canyon a balance. Masculine energy is said to flow upward out of the earth and is intense. Feminine energy flows downward and causes introspection. I visited all four in one day, and it was exhausting.

I only spent a day in Sedona, but would have liked to spend more time there. It’s less stressful to have time to visit these vortexes, but that was not something I could plan for. The order I visited the vortexes was random; I didn’t really plan it out. It was first Boynton Canyon, then Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, and last Cathedral Rock.

Seeing All Four Main Sedona Vortexes is a Whole Day Event

I started my day leaving Jerome at about 9 a.m. I got to Boynton Canyon around 10:30. Parking is super limited, but I was lucky enough to find a spot on the street. I Googled where the vortex was and was told it was about a quarter mile up the trail. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I thought the vortex would be marked or something, that there would be hippies and witches hanging out doing rituals. There was none of that. I hiked farther than a quarter mile, not finding what I believed I was looking for. I figured it was a nice day, so I might as well keep hiking.

As I’m hiking my mind is racing. I had just quit my job I was very unhappy at. I’m on this road trip to go to a bunch of paranormal places for blog content. I was getting ready to move to Seattle, a city where I knew no one and had no job lined up. I’m thinking about my whole life, every decision I ever made, every person I met. I get to a point on the trail and think maybe I should turn back; I had three other vortexes to get to. Then I see a bobcat on the trail ahead. I’d never seen one in the wild before. It looks at me, shows no signs of being scared or threatening. It then turns and starts walking very casually down the path.

The Power of these Vortexes is known World Wide

Every instinct told me to follow it. I followed that bobcat for what felt like five minutes before it finally hopped off the trail towards a stream. I honestly felt it was guiding me. Not a minute more of walking down the trail, I come across two women resting from the hike. It’s not a difficult hike, but not an easy one. We say hello; they compliment me on my mustache—yes it’s amazing—and I keep going. I decide to finish the hike; I’d gotten this far. On my way back I run into them again. We start talking, and they were in Sedona for the vortexes as well.

I ask them where specifically the vortex on this trail is, and they tell me it’s just kind of everywhere. I tell them about all the thoughts running through my head as I was hiking. One of them responds, “sounds like it’s working.” They tell me Bell Rock is considered the most potent of the vortexes, so I should go there next. One of them is an energy worker and asks me to give her one of my hands.

Sedona Vortex Energy is Real

I hold a hand out, palm up, and she puts her hand above it, palm down. She moves her hand slowly towards and away from mine. As she’s doing this, I feel a pressure on my palm, like a balloon is in between our hands. She tells me to go to Bell Rock and meditate. While meditating I should close my eyes and move my palms towards and away from each other. I thank them and head back to my car.

The Most Powerful Sedona Vortex

Bell Rock is about a half hour drive from Boynton Canyon. It’s super obvious, unlike Boynton Canyon. It’s a giant rock formation that takes less than a five-minute hike from the parking lot. The higher you can hike, the more intense the energy gets. I hike up and find a less crowded spot. This was during September, so it was still kind of crowded. I take off my shoes, sit down, close my eyes, and start moving my palms towards and away from each other.

There’s this feeling of pressure on all of my fingertips, not pressure pushing in, but pressure inside my fingers pushing out. I don’t know how long I did this. It could have been two minutes, it could have been 20. I open my eyes, and I felt like I was so stoned. I haven’t gotten high in years, but I felt so high. The view is incredible, and I’m just like wow it’s so pretty.

Intense and Cathartic Sedona Vortex

Then I start to giggle; I can’t stop. I’m like there’s no way this is happening. Then I just start to cry. I haven’t cried in years, and it was so cathartic. Bell Rock is known to be the most intense Sedona Vortex. Then I get these reassuring messages in my head that everything’s going to be okay. It’s ok I quit my job, this blog’s a cool idea, and moving to Seattle is a good idea. I thank whatever you want to call it, God, the universe, and head to Airport Mesa.

The Easiest Sedona Vortex to Reach

Airport Mesa is literally right next to the airport in the middle of town. It’s the most accessible Sedona vortex and has a panoramic view of Sedona. Because of this it’s the most crowded. Not cool if you’re trying to meditate. It’s mostly families taking pictures and being loud. I got the least from this vortex just because of the amount of distractions. But the views were really good.

Deep Feelings Happen at Sedona Vortexes

Finally I head to Cathedral Rock. By this time it’s dusk. This is actually good because as I arrive there, everyone is leaving. I get the whole vortex to myself. Cathedral Rock is the most feminine of the vortexes. I just lay down and look at the stars. I think about how small we as a planet are. How we care so much about things that don’t matter in the grand scheme. I think about how all we really need and want is love. Why is that so hard? Humans all want to be loved and to love. We have strayed so far from what really matters. All of us are scared and lost.

Please go to Sedona

If you are still reading this, I love you. I want you to be happy and have a meaningful life. My hope is you grow old with the people that matter to you. And when you look back at life, you are proud of who you are and the life you lived. Seriously, I love you.

Needless to say I recommend going to Sedona. It was one of the most intense and spiritual experiences I ever had. I hope to return one day and visit the vortexes I didn’t have time to.
